Not to be one of those people, but I actually do love Valentines Day. I find it cute from the decorations, aesthetic, and meaning. I like that it can be a day to do something extra for your SO or be used to celebrate friendships. Even when I was single I would use it as a "treat yourself" day and actually had a lot of fun with it.
Now for everyone's favorite new phrase "while X holiday looks different this year", it doesn't mean you can't celebrate it. You can also do something special for you and your SO without spending too much money. As another gift giving holiday, I know there can be pressure to buy your partner the perfect gift or take them out for an expensive dinner. Just remember that Valentines itself is a silly holiday and it should be used as an excuse to break routine and have fun with your partner!
A Winter Hike

If you live near an area with hiking trails then you could take a relaxing winter hike together especially if you both have the day off. Even if you live in a colder area like me, I think being out in nature during winter can be rather beautiful and calming. Bundle up and then spend the night with some warm drinks and good food!
Spontaneous Road Trip

Is there an interesting landmark near you that you've always wanted to visit, but never have? Why not hop in the car and go for a little adventure! Create a fun playlist and make some snacks for the two of you while you drive and just enjoy the journey.
Take a Virtual Class Together

Many places are doing virtual classes right now from cooking to painting to even making your own cocktails! Prices will vary, but none should be too terribly expensive. You'll both get to learn something new and bond over the activity together.
Picnic Under the Stars

What can be more romantic than an evening under the stars with your favorite person? Grab some blankets, wine, and you favorite foods and find a good spot to stargaze. There's some amazing apps available now to help you identify and search for constellations.
Ice Skating

If you have an ice skating rink around, this would be a great option to get out of your comfort zone and have some winter fun with your SO! See what places are near you and how much tickets normally run. Afterwards, you could grab a cup of cocoa and walk around your city, taking in the views or snuggle in at home!
In the end, don't worry about large gifts or spending X amount of money on Valentines Day. Enjoy the silly, cheesy, and colorful holiday and be sure to remind your SO of how much they mean to you! While many of us may be spending a lot of time with our partner due to lockdowns, we might not be spending a lot of quality time with them. What better day to break up routine and spend some much needed time together?
